Summary Post

I have seen many social media websites. They are all unique in their own way but there is not a lot of creativity. With my idea of creating a website that is not just about communicating but improving your skills. Of course, you can invite your friends to play skill building games. Games will not be the main focus. The main focus is building your academic skills in the fields arts and science. I know that adding these features with take a lot of time but it will be worth it in the end.

I learned a lot of things that could help me from lecture. I could use databases to have my companies that want to use my services. I could even set up a competition of developing a new logo for Mountain Dew or some other name brand product. It will get people motivated to create new and amazing designs just from the social media page.

Even looking at other people's ideas have showed me that I should stick to this idea. I even got feedback from others in my class and they like the idea. I'm going to try my best to actually making this a reality.

Week 7: Databases

In lecture, the professor explain databases. It's a system that manages large amounts of information. It also makes it easier to make quick decisions about information. It's like having a virtual file cabinet with out all the mess and unorganized papers. However, it can still become that way.

If a person does not know how to organize information, the files will be confusing to read and unorganized. The professor explained that the easiest way to set up a database is by using a numerical order that identify each piece of data individually. The you can create quick queries that connect all pieces of data with its correct number.

Using a database is much better than using a spreadsheet. Databases are much more organized and can hold a lot of memory. Spreadsheets have this ability but has a limit. It cannot make queries and have different lists that have relationships.

Engaging the Audience

There is one blog that I always like going to. It's called http://www.engadget.com/. The website shows recent technology news. It gives the reviews and updated of many technical devices we used today. They also do video reviews on devices that are coming out on the market. Their video reviews are not the best, but you at least get some idea of how the device operates. I would recommend just reading the written review. It goes more into details around the devices and the specs that are built into them as well. If you are a fan of technology, I highly recommend using http://www.engadget.com/ to find the lastest news.

Now back to writing about my lectures. In one of my lectures, the professor explained about colors that are used in our cameras and other devices. The colors are created by bits and are set up in a certain order. Red, green ,and blue are primary colors. To get other colors beside the three you need to create a combination. The professor gave his class a first-hand example by creating a web page. He explained that the first two slots represent red,the third and fourth slots are green, the last two slots are for blue. He need to use numbers to represent the colors. If he used 1 in the red slot then he would have gotten a light red. If he used f, which is really the number 15, he would have a dark red. There are millions of color combinations that could be use for a website. I can't imagine going through and pick the colors I want.

This lecture can help me with my idea. I could create a beta website to test and but my idea on the web. I would just have problems with programming different sections of website. I'm sure that I could search online to fix this problem . I should also have a blue print on paper first before I even create it. This would help me greatly. I could also talk to some that knows about web programming.

Week 5: Operating Systems (OS)

In lecture, the professor talked about operating systems for different devices. Operating systems are used to for the management of the CPU, pocessor, memory, file system, device, and user information. Even phones and other mobile devices have operating systems. With each operating system on the market, I would come up with apps for my social media website. Each one would be unique and use a lot of its features. For example, the operating systems for the IPhone,IPod Touch, and other smartphone devices would have feature that benefit the touch screen of the device. There might be mini-games or some other component that users can use to make their social media experience better.

Week #4-Group Interview and Peer Blog

I met with my GA (Graduate Assistant),RJ, for my entrepreneurship project class on Monday. I was with three other idealist that had amazing ideas. There was a person that though of an application for smartphones that allows a person to order food from many restaurants. The feature that I liked the best was the side notes where the cheif knows what ingredients to use. This would help my cousin a lot with her catering business. She is very concern about the ingredients that she uses so her costumers can have a great experience. There was another person that had the idea of creating an intercom with a built in camera for apartments. When the person is not home, the video is stream to you smart phone to see whose at your apartment. Just by clicking Unfortunately, I was not able to remember their names.

I have been looking at other blogs that my classmates have created for this assinment. I came across Eugene's blog (http://eugened88.blogspot.com/). His idea is to create a way for classmates to communicate with each other by searching their classes on social media websites. It fits with my idea of having a social media website that is not just about communication but improving your skills as well. The skill builders could possibly have teams working together to complete a skill builder and help them study for quizes and exams. It would not be possible unless Eugene and me work together so that our ideas become a reality.

Safe Storage

Creating a social media can be trouble. That's why I will need to upgrade or buy a computer that fits the need of running the social media site. Doing research will be the first step. Researching different computers and parts will help me to see what I need. I can also see where to buy the best items for the best prices using different internet websites.

Security is also be an issue in the future especially with hard drives. If I need to upgrade a hard drive, I will need to erase all the data on the old hard drive after transfering the information. Even though I erased the information, there can still be information that can be recovered. Just recently I found out that to permanently erase data off a hard drive you need to destory it. It's the only way to guarantee that the informaion does not get into the wrong hands.

Excel to New Heights

I was never really an excel user. I would  just use excel for collecting data and to create graphs with that data. I did not think excel was very powerful. It's like microsoft visual studio but it's more convient. It's for people that do not know how to program. The if statements is an important part of programing. When using excel your looking for or what you want to gain from using excel. If you understand computer programming, it's the same principal.

With the knowledge I learnt from my lecture, I would use excel to keep track of my clients and business partners. It will help me to be more organized with email addresses and other information that is necessary for my idea of having a user created website.
